BILLINGS – It is officially the spring season today. Mother Nature planned a nice party to welcome it in.

Wednesday afternoon will be filled with sunshine, a light wind, and high temperatures mainly in the mid-40s to upper 50s. Readings will trend a little cooler east of Billings closer to the Dakotas.

Overnight temperatures will slip to the 20s to low 30s with a mostly clear sky.

Thursday is trending just a little bit warmer. Highs will be mainly in the 50s. Some places, including Billings, could nudge into the low 60s.

There are a few downsides to the warm-up. River ice will start to break up, and some ice jams are possible. Melting snow and ice during the day can refreezing cause slick spots in the mornings.

There is still a lot of and certainty with a weather system approaching for the weekend. While temperatures will remain mild, we could pick up additional rain and snow showers Saturday and Sunday.
