BILLINGS- It is a typical spring time pattern, with changes in the weather throughout the week.

Temperatures will stay above average for the next several days, with highs hitting the 70s to low 80s through Thursday. A series of disturbances will keep a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms going the next few days.

The best chance of showers and thunderstorms in the short-term will be in and close to the area mountains. Later in the week, the chance for showers and thunderstorms spread across the lower elevations.

Right now, Thursday afternoon and evening is shaping up to be our best chance of strong thunderstorms, with rain showers and general thunderstorms heading into the weekend.

Friday will become cooler and wetter, with highs likely only in the 50s by Saturday and Sunday. Overnight low temperatures will drop from the upper 40s and 50s early this week to the 40s by the weekend.

A combination of melting mountain snow early in the week combined with rain later in the week will have area creeks, streams and rivers running faster and higher.

Billings forecast

Monday… Mostly sunny with a high near 83. Westerly wind 10 to 20 mph.

Monday night… Mostly cloudy with a low around 52.

Tuesday… Mostly sunny with a high of about 81. A 20% chance of a shower thunderstorm in the afternoon.
