BILLINGS – Showers and thunderstorms become more frequent in the afternoons. A shift to cooler and wetter weather for the weekend is still on track.

High temperatures move back up to the 70s to mid-80s today, with Billings once again having a good shot of making the mid to lower 80s for a high.

A disturbance moving through will create the potential for thunderstorms from the mountains extending toward Billings. The majority will be general thunderstorms, but a few strong cells could produce small hail and strong downdrafts.

Wednesday will be warm again, returning to the 70s to mid-80s for the highs another disturbance brings more potential for thunderstorms, but the stronger storms could form south of Billings.

Heading into the weekend, the overall outlook is cool and wet. Increasing shower and thunderstorm chances pick up on Friday and continue through Saturday. High temperatures will tumble from the low 80s Tuesday and Wednesday to the 50s by Saturday and Sunday.

Billings forecast

Tuesday… Mostly sunny to partly cloudy with a high near 83. A 30% chance of afternoon or early evening showers or thunderstorms.

Tuesday night… Scattered to isolated evening showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, mostly cloudy with a low near 56.

Wednesday… Partly sunny with a high of about 81. A chance of showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon or evening.
