BILLINGS- Memorial Day observances will likely be in the rain, with showers and thunderstorms putting a damper on afternoon barbecues.

Heavy rainfall is possible in pockets around the area Monday through Tuesday morning. Otherwise, conditions will generally be cloudy to mostly cloudy with showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

High temperatures Monday will be mainly in the 50s with a Northeast wind about 10 to 20 miles an hour widespread.

Heavy rain falling on already saturated ground will increase flooding concerns, especially in areas South of Billings. Flood watches are in effect.

Snowfall in the Beartooth mountains will impact the Beartooth Highway. Snow will also affect travel in the Bighorn Mountains Monday night through Tuesday.

Warmer and drier conditions will follow this week.

Billings forecast:

Memorial Day… Showers, with thunderstorms also possible afternoon. A high near 55. North wind 10 to 20 mph.

Monday night… Showers with a possible thunderstorm during the evening. Showers likely overnight. A low of about 47.

Tuesday… A chance of a morning shower, otherwise mostly sunny. About 65 for the high.
