Q2 Weather: A typical weather pattern for Billings this week with splash-and-dash showers

Posted

BILLINGS- It is another beautiful Monday afternoon in Billings. We have partly cloudy skies, and temperatures are very comfortable at 77 degrees in the early afternoon. And look at how green the grass is, thanks to all the recent rain.

In fact, Big Timber reported about an inch and a half of heavy rain Sunday in a 20-minute period.

In the Billings area, while it was a fairly dry weekend for us, we had picked up about a third of an inch of rain over the last seven days.

It looks like our scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue again most of this week.

In the meantime, current temps are mostly into the 70s around the state with a few places reporting 60s, like Dillon, Glendive and Cut Bank.

In the early afternoon, Cody and Sheridan are also into the 60s.

Our thunderstorm outlook for Monday shows kind of the same thing as last week, isolated showers and thunderstorms but nothing severe is expected.

Our current Doppler radar shows spotty, scattered rain showers. Some of them are just sprinkles, some are a little heavier than that. Most of the heavier storms seem to be directly south of Missoula.

They are tracking towards the southeast. So eventually some of that moisture will probably make its way to the Billings area, and that’s why we have a slight chance for some afternoon thunderstorms later Monday afternoon.

Our high-resolution forecast model does show spotty sprinkles around south-central Montana until Tuesday afternoon.

We see a minor weather disturbance moving through about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

After that, we see another shot of moisture moving in for Wednesday afternoon. Once again, these will be very spotty splash-and-dash showers.
