Q2 Billing Area Weather: Fire concerns Thursday

BILLINGS — We lose a lot of smoke but gain a lot of wind.

Wednesday, high temperatures return to the mid-70s to mid-80s. Expect a mix of clouds, sun and light winds.

Overnight temperatures will slip to mainly the 50s and stay partly cloudy.

Ahead of a cold front, Thursday afternoon highs will be in the neighborhood of record high readings in the 80s to low 90s. The warmest readings will be east of Billings. West winds will increase to gusts near 40 mph, and with low relative humidity, wildfire risk will increase.

A big cool down will follow with temperatures slipping to the 60s and low 70s for Friday and Saturday. Expect some showers and periods of wind, especially on Saturday.

Billings forecast:

Wednesday… Mostly sunny, with a high near 81. Southwest wind around 5 mph.

Wednesday night: Increasing clouds, with a low around 58. Southerly wind 5 to 10 mph.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 85. Southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming northwest 15 to 25 mph in the afternoon.
