BILLINGS — Colder than average but a break in the weather Tuesday. Wednesday, brace for a transition into cold and snowy weather.

Tuesday starts with a few showers and ends with sunshine in a few clouds. Highs will be mainly in the 30s to low 40s, the trend colder in northeastern Montana and a little bit warmer through northern Wyoming.

Rain, snow or even freezing rain is possible Tuesday night through early Wednesday. That will be followed by periods of rain/snow, with highs again mainly in the 30s to low 40s.

Very cold air will move into northern Montana through the day Wednesday and invade southern Montana northern Wyoming Wednesday night through Thursday. The best snow making weather will be Wednesday night through Thursday.

Temperatures plummet with highs only in the 20s and teens from Thursday through Monday and overnight temperatures in the single digits in teens. These are easily record cold temperatures consistently.

Periods of snow will continue to develop off and on through the weekend but should be light and powdery snow with the cold temperatures.
