BILLINGS — After tying the record cold reading first thing Thursday, a chance of another record setter early Friday.

Expect periods of light snow Thursday night through Friday. 3 to 8 inches is possible in the mountains, with just a light coating across the plains.

The big weather story is still cold temperatures, dropping to the teens and 20s below zero early Friday morning. Additional wind chills will make it feel -40° to -50°.

Limit time outdoors.

High temperatures through Sunday will be mainly in the single digits below zero with more readings into the teens to 20s below zero each morning.

The overall warming trend is still on track to kick in by around Monday. Expect a modest warm-up with single digits in teens for highs. 20s to 30s will follow.

Thursday night… Cloudy with light snow. A low near -20. Wind chill values as low as -40.

Friday… Mostly cloudy with scattered snow. Cold with a high of about -7.

Saturday and Sunday… A mix of clouds and sun with single digits below zero for highs and teen to 20s below zero in the mornings.
