and last updated

BILLINGS — The greatest potential for thunderstorms Thursday is every west of Roundup, Billings and Cody, Wyoming between 3PM and 8PM. Strong winds are possible, and hail around an inch in diameter is possible.

If storms approach, go inside a building or into a hardtop automobile. Wait 30 minutes after the storm passes to head back outdoors.

Highs temperatures will be mainly upper 60s to upper 70s from Billings westward Thursday, with 70s to low 80s in eastern Montana. Showers and thunderstorms will move east of Billings during the evening and overnight hours but lose much of their energy.

After starting in the mid-40s to low 50s with a few morning showers Friday, the afternoon is shaping up to be comfortable with highs mainly 65 to 70.

Showers and general thunderstorms will come and go through the weekend and continue next week. Highs will be the coolest Monday in the 50s to low 60s with the best chance of precipitation Sunday night through Monday.

Otherwise, expect most most days to warm to the 60s to low 70s with a mix of clouds and sun with showers possible regularly.

Billings forecast:

Thursday… Mostly cloudy with a chance of a morning shower, increasing to scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Close to 78 for the high. Light west wind, except around storms.

Thursday night… Showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the evening. Mostly cloudy overnight. Low near 50.

Friday… Mostly sunny with a slight chance of a shower. About 68 for a high.
