BILLINGS — Wednesday is the transition day into colder and wetter weather.

Expect areas of rain and snow showers Wednesday, with temperatures mainly in the 30s to 40s for the highs in Eastern Montana and northern Wyoming. Showers turned all snow during the evening hours and continue overnight.

Accumulations looked to be highest in the mountains and foothills through Thursday, but totals look lower than previous estimates. Morning temperatures will be into the teens and 20s, and afternoon highs on Thursday stay in the 20s.

Record cold temperatures will follow with highs mainly in the teens and 20s through the weekend and overnight temperatures ranging from the teens to subzero cold possible by early Monday.

A second round of snow will arrive sometime late Friday through Saturday. Accumulations looked heavier than the Wednesday night through Thursday system.

Wednesday night… Rain and snow showers switch to all snow during the evening and continue overnight. An additional 1 to 3 inches of snow possible. Low of about 23.
