BILLINGS — Windy and warming Friday. Cooler and calmer Saturday.

Temperatures will warm and winds will increase ahead of a cold front Friday. High temperatures in southern Montana northern Wyoming will be mainly in the 60s (cooler in the Bighorn Basin of northern Wyoming).

Winds will be strong in the mountain foothills with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Winds could extend eastward to around Billings at 30 to 40 mph gusts.

The cold front will move through the area Friday evening, creating areas of wind and isolated showers. Lows will be mainly in the 30s to about 40 degrees.

Expect some wind across the Eastern Plains of Montana as a cold front exits especially early Saturday. With sunshine and less wind, temperatures cool to the 40s to mid 50s Saturday afternoon.

Sunday will be a transition day, with highs moving back up into the 50s to low 60s. Warm and dry conditions will follow Monday through Wednesday, with a highs mainly in the 60s.

Billings forecast:

Friday… Mostly sunny but breezy at 15 to 25 miles an hour from the Southwest. Stronger gusts to 30 – 40 mph. High near 66.

Friday night… Partly cloudy and breezy with a low around 38.

Saturday… Sunny with a high near 51. Variable wind 10 to 20 mph.
