BILLINGS — Changes in the weather start Tuesday, with contrasts in the weather from west to east.
Periods of rain start Tuesday and linger into Thursday. Wednesday looks to have the heaviest rain with high elevation snow.
Highs Tuesday will be into the 60s to low 70s from Billings to the west with areas of rain showers that could be heavy at times. East of Billings, highs will hit the 70s to low 80s with some threat of late day strong thunderstorms.
Tuesday evening, some strong to severe storms with large hail and damaging winds are possible in northeastern Montana. Tuesday night through early Wednesday, accumulating snow is likely with 6 to 8 inches possible along the Beartooth Highway.
Rain totals through Thursday could reach a half inch to 1 ½ inches from Billings westward, with lighter accumulations in the Eastern plains.

Tuesday… The chance of showers and thunderstorms increasing through the day. A high of about 71. North breeze 5 to 10 mph.
Tuesday night… Showers and possibly a thunderstorm during the evening and then rain showers likely overnight with a rumble of thunder possible. Low near 50.
Wednesday… Rain showers. High close to 59.
