BILLINGS — We begin to pull out of the cold snap, but it takes several days.

Expect Wednesday afternoon sun with highs ranging from subzero in northeast Montana to the 20s in the mountain foothills west of Billings and through northern Wyoming. Billings has a chance to reach the low 20s, but the persistent cold air and fresh snow will hold back a warm up.

Expect more cold overnight lows, but most readings stay above zero.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday will hit mainly the 20s for high temperatures. Friday has a good chance of snow, with 1 to 2 inches over much the area.

We are on track for a nice warm up starting Sunday, with highs hitting the 30s to mid-40s and lows in the 20s to low 30s.

Billings forecast:

Wednesday… Sunny, with a high near 18. Morning wind chill values as low as -25. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east in the afternoon.

Wednesday night… Increasing clouds, with a low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -10. North northeast wind 5 to 15 mph becoming southwest after midnight.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 27. Wind chill values as low as -10. South wind 5 to 10 mph becoming east in the afternoon.
