BILLINGS — Strong to severe storms are possible in part of the area Tuesday. For others, heat is the big story.

Strong to severe storms are possible closer to the mountain foothills west of Billings. Storms from near Livingston, especially near Harlowton, and north of Billings to Roundup could produce damaging wind and hail during the afternoon and evening.

With less cloud cover than Monday, Tuesday will warm to the mid-70s to upper 80s. The warmest readings will be in Eastern Montana, Northern Wyoming and the western Dakotas.

The chance of severe storms shifts to eastern Montana and the Western Dakotas on Wednesday. Temperatures remain above seasonal averages.

Thursday is somewhat quieter. Widespread showers and a few thunderstorms with cooler temperatures are expected Friday and Saturday.

Billings weather:

Tuesday… Sunny with a high near 81. Light and variable breeze.

Tuesday night… Partly cloudy with a low around 55. East breeze 5 to 15 mph.

Wednesday… Partly cloudy with a chance of afternoon and evening showers or thunderstorms.
