and last updated

BILLINGS — Mostly cloudy skies and high heat are on the menu for Billings forecast today. The temperature in Billings is already up to 94 degrees under mostly cloudy sky with a Southeast wind at 5 mph.

Around the rest of the state our current temps are mostly to the 80s out in the West, 90s, back in the East and a few places like Glasgow, Montana and Williston, North Dakota are in the 100s.

We still have a Red Flag Warning for most of Eastern Montana and northern Wyoming through tonight. High winds, low humidity and warm temps, along with isolated dry thunderstorms could cause erratic fire behavior and more wildfires starts.

Plus, we also have a Heat Advisory until 9 p.m. tonight for much of Eastern Montana. Exposure to today's high heat could cause heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

The Doppler radar shows you some scattered showers moving off the Beartooth and Absaroka Mountains. The big question is, are there any lightning strikes in those storms? So far, our lightning detection computer programs don't detect any strikes.

The high-resolution forecast model shows we could see some spotty showers across the south-central part of the state this evening. Then a marginal risk of severe storms moves in for tomorrow. That's when we could see some stronger storms in the area by 6 p.m.

Those showers will stay with us through the evening and then disappear by Thursday afternoon. All we will be left with, are a few clouds.

We will be at 97 degrees at 5:30 p.m. tonight then cool back down to the 60s the morning. Then it's back up to 89° by 1:30 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

We will top out at 94 on Wednesday and keep it in the 90s for the rest of the week and into the early part of next week.
