BILLINGS — We are seeing a little bit of filtered sunshine in the sky over Billings on Tuesday. The temperatures were in a process of warming up.
At 1:30 p.m., it was 36 degrees in Billings with a southwest wind at 20 mph. This made it feel like 25 degrees.
High pressure in the upper levels and at the surface over the central Rockies will continue to dominate our weather pattern for Tuesday and the rest of the week.
Around the rest of the state, it was a little chilly in the west. Missoula was only 19 degrees while Butte and Dillon were only in the 20s. We saw 30s in central Montana.
We still have issues with wind Tuesday. We have a Wind Advisory for the Beartooth foothills until noon Wednesday for winds gusting from 50 to 60 mph.
Plus, we have a High Wind Warning for Sweet Grass County until noon Wednesday.
There the winds are blowing 45 to 55 mph. A little farther north in the Rocky Mountain front, a Winter Weather Advisory is up for blowing and drifting snow until 5 p.m. Tuesday.
The Doppler radar and satellite imagery shows just cloudy skies rolling in from the northwest.
However, we might see a little hole in the clouds a little later Tuesday afternoon before the next batch of cloud cover arrives.
The high-resolution forecast model shows we are expecting to see generally dry conditions across most of southern Montana through all of Tuesday and most of Wednesday, with new snow arriving in the Billings area around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.
Those snow showers should move in and out fairly quickly and we expect mostly sunny skies on Thursday afternoon.
Our temperatures will continue to stay in the 30s over the next 20 hours or so and then pop up to 42 degrees about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
We will continue to see high temps stay in the 40s for the rest of the week and then jump up into the 50s over the weekend and back down to 44 degrees on Monday for a high.
