Q2 Weather: It's warm before the storm in Billings

BILLINGS — The sun is out, and the temperatures are starting to soar, here in Billings and across the rest of Montana. In the early afternoon, it's 83 degrees in Billings and the wind is calm.

Around the rest of the state the temps are into the 70s out in the west, but look at all the 80s back in the east and Sheridan right now is at 90 degrees.

Right now, the Doppler radar shows you a false echo up there by Phillips and Garfield counties. It could be chaff or just some temperature in versions, but in any case I don't think that they are rain showers.

The High-Resolution forecast model suggests we will enjoy mostly sunny skies across entire state the rest of the afternoon.

Then as we head into Friday morning we could see some shower start to push their way into the central part of the state from the southwest.

It really won't be until about Friday evening when a new cold front sweeps into the region and brings us a good chance for some showers and thunderstorms across south central and Eastern Montana.

Then on Saturday, the cold front pushes through and temperature will cool down and the chance of rain will decrease.

However, tonight we will cool back down to the 50s and 60s across the region. Plus, there still is a high fire danger in Yellowstone National Park.

Tomorrow we cook back up into the and 80s and 90s with a good chance for showers moving into Yellowstone County at about 8 p.m. That will be the new cold front sweeping into the region.

However, later this afternoon we will warm up to 94 degrees then cool back down to the 60s in the morning and back up into the upper 80s in the early afternoon on Friday.

We will top out at 94 on Friday, then cool back down to the 80s Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Then back to the low to mid 90s as we get into the middle part of next week.
