BILLINGS — It is a partly cloudy and very warm day today in Billings. In fact, it could be the warmest day in the last two years. Already, the temperatures at 92 degrees in Billings and forecast to go higher today, possibly up over the triple digit mark.
Around the rest the state the temps are mostly to the 80s in the West, 90s in the central part of the state we are already starting to top out in the hundreds at Jordan and Sheridan, to our East.
We already have the Red Flag Warning for much of north central Montana for high winds and low humidity and warm temps. That stays with us until tonight at 9 p.m.. A Red Flag Warning means we could see erratic fire behavior and possibly new fire starts.
Plus, we have a Fire Weather Watch in the Southwest and that stays with us from early Tuesday afternoon until midnight.
We have just seen south-central Montana put into a Red Flag Warning from noon Tuesday until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
And we also have a Heat Advisory which remains in effect until 9 p.m. Tuesday for much of Eastern Montana and parts of the West.
Prolonged exposure to high temperatures outside could create heat related illnesses.
The Doppler radar and satellite imagery shows just a few clouds rolling into the state today. There is not much more in the way of moisture with them.
The High-Resolution Forecast model shows we will continue to see these clouds rolling out over the next 24 hours. The next chance for showers in Billings, could be Wednesday morning when a week weather disturbance moves through.
Our temperatures will cool back down to the 50s and 60s across South central and Eastern Montana tonight, then bounce back up into the 80s, 90s and a few places could even see 100s.
In Billings, it will be 100 degrees at 5:30 p.m. cool back down to 71 degrees in the morning, back up to 91 degrees about 1:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
We will top out at 97 on Tuesday, then roll it back to 91 for high on Friday, up to 94 on Saturday and 92 on Sunday.
