BILLINGS — In the short term, wind and warm temperatures tell the story, but it does not last through the weekend.
As a mix of rain, snow, and even possible freezing rain shift across eastern Montana Thursday, the sun will break through for another mild day.
Despite afternoon sun and readings in the 40s Thursday, a brisk wind puts a damper on the day from Billings to the west.
Highs hit the 50s widespread on Friday, and 50s to low 60s Saturday. But the winds increase, and so does the risk of spreading wildfires...even in January.
Once temperatures start to drop Sunday, they don't look back. Highs will be in the 30s by Monday and Tuesday.
Billings forecast:
Wednesday… Gradual clearing with a high near 46. Winds could gust to 40 mph.
Wednesday night… Increasing clouds and dropping to around 30.
Thursday... Partly cloudy and a high sof about 53. Winds westerly 15 to 30 mph.
