Q2 Weather: The forecast for Billings is warming up

BILLINGS — It's another beautiful sunny day in Billings, with a fresh inch of snow on the ground and 31 degrees. Our winds are still out of the southwest at 13 mph.

Around the rest of the state, our current temps are mostly into the teens, 20s and 30s. Wyoming has mostly 30s, but 36 degrees at Sheridan.

On the threat board, we have a High Wind Watch for Wheatland and Sweet Grass counties for winds gusting to 60 mph Friday night through Saturday evening.

Plus we have a Wind Advisory in the Beartooth foothills from 5 p.m. Thursday to 9 p.m. Saturday for winds gusting 60 to 70 mph.

There is also a Winter Storm Watch for Yellowstone Park from Friday evening until Saturday evening for 7 to 9 inches of snow in the south and west and 1 to 3 inches of snow in the east.

The Doppler radar and satellite imagery shows no snowfall, but a few clouds are starting roll in from the northwest. However, east of the Divide, we are looking at mostly warmer conditions Thursday thanks to a warm front that is sweeping through the region.

That warm front will keep us warm right on through Friday. Then a new fast-moving weather disturbance moves in from the west and will kick up the winds and produce scattered snow showers in the mountains, but we think most of the snow will fall outside of Billings.

On Saturday, a new cold front drops down from Canada and that could produce some more snow showers later in the afternoon and evening.

We will probably stay in the 20s to low 30s for the rest of Thursday then kick back up into the 40s about 1:30 p.m. Friday.

We will top out at 46 on Friday, then roll back to 42 on Saturday, 43 on Sunday, then jump up to 55 degrees on Tuesday and 52 on Wednesday.
