BILLINGS — Some of us are sick of being inside during this time, and now that the weather is seeming more like summer, we are taking our four legged friends out for some exercise and Red Oxx is helping us do just that.

During these unfamiliar times, one local shelter- B.A.R.K, has noticed an increase in animal adoption and the need for more leashes.

The owner of Red Oxx, Jim Markel, is stepping up to make sure every animal adopted will be safe and have a leash.

"We are a local grown company, we started here in 1946, and selling direct online since the early 90’s," Markel said. "I noticed that everyone was out walking their dogs, I live in a neighborhood and I just was like man a lot of people are out walking their dogs. Our industrial machines are so beefy...so sewing gowns and masks is just too tiny to do so I just came up with the idea that we would donate a leash for every leash that was sold and we called up the director of B.A.R.K, Sandy Price, and decided to partner with them. Even people online are buying them and they are donating them back to Billings. We have been shipping them to the Westend."

Markel said that since they are an international company, he has seen people donating from all over the world.

"I have had people who are donating leashes and saying buy one or donate two because my dog passed. It’s been a really nice reception from our customers even from all around America. We really like our neighborhood down here, it’s just a really great town and we just like being apart of the community."

Every journey begins with a first step, and Red Oxx is making sure when our four legged friends are adopted and take their first steps, they are leashed up and ready to go.

B.A.R.K is always looking for fosters, volunteer or donations.
